My Artwork History:
I've been drawing my entire life; since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I mostly drew with paper and pencil for the majority of my drawing career. I loved to draw animals, particularly lions as seen in Disneys: The Lion King, but also a variety of other things. As I grew older, I began taking an interest in drawing people, both cartoons and realistically. In 8th grade, I was introduced to Anime, serious gaming, and a whole new world of ideas in general. This was also around the time I first played and loved Resident Evil 2. (I played RE2 before RE1). I began to experiment with the Anime style of art, being inspired by shows such as Slayers and Trigun, and games like Suikoden, Final Fantasy and of course Resident Evil.
After discovering a whole new world of art, I began to branch away from simple pencil and paper sketches. I started to ink my drawings; outlining them in thick black, and proceeding to color them in with colored pencil. Sometimes colored pencil coloring was hard though; the pictures and drawings I'd see in Anime and Games looked so much crisper and full. Around this time, I had also began to make more use of computers and the internet, looking up the art of what I was a fan for. I realized that some of the most beautiful artwork was done either by painting... or a program called Photoshop. Not being a strong painter, and not owning Photoshop, I searched my computer for anything that might help. All I could find was Microsoft Paint, and Picture It! 7.0.
I made use of my tools though. MSPaint was entertaining enough, and the tools it provided were fun to use, as well as learn how to manipulate them and make an all-new style of artwork. Picture It! was like a very basic Photoshop which I used to color in scanned hand-drawings. Meanwhile at school, I was lucky enough to enroll in a class that taught Photoshop and Illustrator, so I got some basic lessons there early on. But also, on the downside of school, my regular non-computer art classes discouraged my love of cartooning. I was actually a very poor student in the regular art classes, since I never gave in to drawing what I found was boring.
After High School, I proceeded to also take a few Art classes in college, but they were very small, minor classes as it was not specifically an Art School. I took classes in figure drawing, graphic design, illustration, and Photoshop/Illustrator. Disappointing enough, even in some of those classes I was discouraged against using my Anime and Cartoon style, but I still pressed on and vowed to draw what I loved, in a style I loved. I wasn't looking for change, I was looking to better myself in what I actually wanted to do. And I still do to this day.
Currently, my biggest inspirations in art style are to this day from Suikoden. It's a beautifully done style both in portraits and animation. As for cartooning, I was inspired from basic 'Chibi' style Anime. Big heads, hands and feet on small bodies. I like simplicity though, so in time, I managed to form my own unique style. I'm told it looks like a mix of basic Chibi style and the old-time comic, Peanuts (Charlie Brown). Among my Anime and Cartoon styles, I am always willing to try many others, ranging from realistic portraits, pop-art, graphic design, and anything in between. While I don't like to be forced to do something I dislike... I'm always open to try something new of my own will.
And for my future; I currently have in the works a plan on moving to Finland to further my Art Studies. I have been accepted to the school and things are in motion, but as of now, getting the Finnish Residency Permit is causing a few bumps in the road. One of the main problems being financial. While I am getting assistance from my immediate family, it may not be enough. I plan on setting up a PayPal donation in the near future, more information to come soon.
